What to do in the area?
Njardarheim
A fine mountain area in Setesdal Vesthei/Ryfylkeheiene. The lowest elevation parts of the area are at about 500 m.s.l., and the highest summit is Urddalsknuten at 1434 m.s.l. The Blåsjø, Svartevassmagasinet, and Roskreppfjorden reservoirs dominate the area.
Access to the greater part of the area is from Brokke-Suleskardveien or by boat in the two reservoirs, Roskreppfjorden and Svartevassmagasinet.
Boat traffic:
Boats cannot now traffic Svartevassmagasinet, but according to plan, boat traffic may resume in the summer of 2015 (in July).
Snow and ploughing:
The Brokke/Suleskardveien road is closed 1 November. The road up from the Brokke-Suleskard up to toe boat ramp at Rosskreppfjorden has no regular ploughing. The road in Flatestøldalen has no regular ploughing. In general, you should consider weather and road conditions, and all driving is at your own risk. The weather changes rapidly, and mountain driving conditions can be difficult starting in early autumn. Winter snow and ice lies long in the mountains, on the Rosskreppfjorden often as late as to 20 June.
Traffic on regulated reservoirs.
When boating on large reservoirs, exercise caution, as water levels can change quickly and considerably. Use a seaworthy boat with a sufficiently powerful motor. Remember life vests and know the weather report.
In winter, be sure that you know the ice thickness on rivers, streams and reservoirs.
